The History of CTC Tennis

Titans of Tennis at the California Tennis Club

The California Tennis Club is a magnet to tennis players of all levels, but notably, over the years several of our members have been inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame including Margaret Osborne Du Pont, Clarence Griffin, Bill Johnston, Alice Marble, Maurice McLoughlin, Helen Wills, and Rosie Casals.

Tennis greats such as world #1 Jack Kramer, world #1 Bill Tilden, Howard Kinskey, Wimbledon doubles winner Tom Brown, Harry and Henry Likas, and Barbara Benigni grew up playing at the Cal Club and later ranked among the top players of the world.

Masters of the game Barbara Benigni and Rosie Casals are still active members at the Club. Ms. Benigni plays multiple times each week, artfully running her opponents from side to side, baseline to net! It's fun to watch!

Rich with prestige and a history of these tennis greats and national champions, the California Tennis Club is proud to be a member of the Association of Centenary Tennis Clubs, 100+ year old Clubs from around the world.
